Teaching Tip: Pets in Class

When you are deciding on a pet for your classroom, ask parents, other teachers, and pet stores if you can keep one of theirs for a week. Let the children experience how much work it is to care for each pet. Chart the responsibilities and time needed to take care of each animal. After your students have experienced several pets, talk about which kind you would like to have for a class pet.

It is also a great time to work on types of writing. Students can write a:

1. narrative writing piece describing how the pet feels in class.

2. expository writing piece explaining the responsibilties associated with each pet.

3. persuasive writing piece explaining which pet is best suited for the class.

Jokes You Can Tell in Class

Harry asked his wife: "Did your leave a tip for the boy who delivers our paper?"

His wife replied: "Yes, dear. I put some of it in the bushes, some of it on the roof, and some of it in the front yard."
