| | Teachers: Make Students Love Math Class? At every math conference or meeting we have with a number of math teachers, a common question is always presented to us: "How do I make my students love math?" Our response is, "Show them how math affects their lives by using a project!" The key is to have it focus around them. Every other Friday, I spend half of class trying to use math to help students solve their own problems. For example, this week Michelle a basketball player told our class that she was having trouble with her jump shot. So we called the coach and asked for any statistics she could provide us with. After analyzing the data, the class figured out that Michelle is twice as likely to make a shot when she shoots from the right side of the basket. The kids always look forward to every other Friday; so do I. |
